2001 Qualifier | 2001 Awards Show | Clerking School | Junior Showmanship

Regional Directors Comments:

I want to thank Betty Haden and Fran Eiserloh for all the work they have done on the Regional Awards Show coming up in June.

You asked for it! According to the survey conducted at the regional qualifier last October, we are planning a formal banquet, so guys, get your tuxedo's dusted and ladies, get your ball gowns ready, because we are going to have a good time.

It seems that the majority of the show-producing clubs in the region is having problems with:
  •  Availability of an affordable show hall
  •  fewer entries
  •  shrinking gate
  •  lack of a work force

But we can not all change show dates. Everyone wants to move their show to March or April. That can not be done.

I researched the smaller show syndrome. Using the statistical data printed in the August Almanac's, I found:

  •  1999-2000 show season, there were 40 shows held in the region, with an average of 200 cats present per show.
  •  1998-1999 show season, there were 40 shows held in the region, with an average of 194 cats present per show.
  •  1997-1998 show season, there were 42 shows held in the region, with an average of 198 cats present per show.
  •  1996-1997 show season, there were 40 shows held in the region, with an average of 245 cats present per show.
  •  1995-1996 show season, there were 39 shows held in the region, with an average of 214 cats present per show.

These figures show that the region is reasonably stable at 39-42 shows per season. The cats present per show are also stable with the exception of the 96-97 show season.

Comparing the 1998-1999 show season to the 1999-2000 season, our shows are on an upswing. Enough figures, if your club has any questions regarding show dates, contact the region's show scheduler: Vicky Edwards, 2329 Eagle Park Lane, Arlington, TX 76011. 1-817-795-1540 or pavlova3@aol.com

 2001 Awards Show and Banquet:

The regional awards banquet for the 2000-2001 show season will be held in San Antonio, Texas. I thank the Alamo City CC for sponsoring this show. It will be June 9-10 and be judged by: Vaughn Barber, Ann Pevey, Kitty Angell, Pam DelaBar, Betty White, Jan Rogers, Jeff Janzen. Note the banquet will be formal, and you have a choice of a $30 chicken or a $35 beef meal.

For those of you who expect to have a DM, or receive a Regional Award, such as top 20 kitten, top 25 cat, top 20 premier, or a regional breed award, you need to send a photograph of your cat to: James Watson, 29 Hilton Drive, Conway, AR 72032-9607. 1-501-327-8204.

James will once again prepare the awards booklet and computerized presentation for your winners. James MUST receive the photo's by 1 MAY. If your photo is received after this date, you will have to pay the additional cost incurred for overnight freight. James will scan the photos and forward them to be placed on the award plaques.

Jan Rogers and Preferred Promotions Network will once again supply the award plaques. I received bids from several different companies but felt their product was inferior to Preferred's.

The rosettes will be provided by Cedar Ridge Designs, Sonoma, California.

On the road again PHOTOS should be sent to Sue Riley, 322 Country Rd 97, Nederland, CO 80466. We are scanning your photos for a computerized program. Send PHOTOS only.

Our master of ceremonies will once again be Charlie Farmer and Nick Spencer.

Special Awards

Several "Special" awards will be presented again this year during the banquet Saturday night.

  1. The George Summerville Life Time Achievement Award
  2. The 2000-2001 Achievement Award
  3. Oldest Cattery (still actively breeding and showing during this season). I will need cattery registration date.
  4. Dumb A__ Award
  5. Poor Looser Award

If you have any nominations for the above, or any other "special award" get them to Lonnie Hoover prior to May 1, 2001.

2002 Gulf Shore Region Awards Banquet

The 2002 Regional Awards Banquet will be held in ................... Okay, who is going to fill in the blank?? Where will we hold the 2002 awards banquet?

Junior Showmanship

During the CFA Board meeting in Feb., we were asked to remind all regional clubs that we need to sponsor Jr. Showmanship rings (JS). The JS is a CFA program that provides the opportunity for young people aged 8 to 15 to be involved in the educational competition focusing on the pedigreed cat. The program is designed to foster knowledge of CFA pedigreed cats and their written standard, general feline health considerations, grooming and care of the cat, as well as to develop qualities such as self-confidence and sportsmanship in young people.

I would like to encourage each club who has a show scheduled or is planning a future show to consider sponsoring a JS ring. The judging can be held during the lunch break either Saturday or Sunday. Most judges are anxious to participate or you may ask a judge who is entered as an exhibitor to work with the JS ring.

The season for JS is from Sept. 1 through Aug. 31. I would like very much to have as many junior as possible from the Gulf Shore Region compete at the International Show this year. The cost for JS entry is $5 and the Central Office provides the ribbons of participation for each junior, making little or no cost to the club. The future of CFA lie with the young ones
