I want to thank
Marsha Ammons and her show committee for the wonderful job they did on
the Gulf Shore Regional Qualifier in Mesquite Texas.
No one expected the show would fill at 500 cats.
But along with all those cats, came all those problems.
Marsha did a wonderful job overcoming all the controversies and
getting the judges to the airport on time.
Special thanks to the
following:
Linda Coombes
(hospitality & decorations)
Carla Bizell & Kathy
Black (master clerks)
Cynthia Rigoni (ring

Christine Fuge
(decorations, hospitality &
ribbons/rosettes)
Grace Sutton

For those of you who
missed the show, you also missed a wonderful rendition of “God Bless
America” sung by our own Jolie Stratton.
It truly moved us all.
Once again I want to
thank Dru Milligan and Jimmy Hawley on the successful raffle.
These
two missed their
calling; they should have become used car salespersons, and
they could be
rich instead of so
be-u-tee-ful. Jolie
Stratton was the lucky person who won the 19” color TV.
The Arkansas Feline
Fanciers (James and Paula Watson) show of 15-16 Sept was cancelled and
so they donated all of their soft drinks, water and munchies to the
regional qualifier. Thank
you.
I really want to say
thanks to Marsha, Nick Spencer and Debbie Knorr for sticking around
until we had stacked the last table and chair.
That’s when the show is really over.
GULF SHORE REGIONAL
QUALIFIER
INCOME:
All the accounting is
not complete, but as you can see in the enclosed profit/loss
statement, the Gulf Shore Region will make a profit in excess of
$11,450.00 from the qualifier.
A lot of the credit goes to the wonderful exhibitors in the
Gulf Shore Region (give yourselves a pat on the back) and a little bit
to the fact that the International Show was held in our region, in
Houston Texas.
ENTRIES:
The Gulf Shore Region
outdid themselves on the entry for this show; we filled at 500 cats
and had to send 63 entries back.
Maybe it’s time we looked at the number of entries the regions
can accept for the qualifiers.
Lets look at
entries/absentees:

That’s 117 absentees
for this show. A normal
absentee rate is
around 8 to 12 percent.
We had an absentee rate of 23.4 percent.
The qualifiers have a 10 percent absentee ratio figured in;
that is why we are allowed an entry of 500 versus the normal 450.
If we had an absentee ratio of 20 percent we could accept 550
entries and 63 cats would not have been denied entry to our qualifier
and the International Show.
REGIONAL HISTORY BOOTH:
I hope everyone in
attendance at the qualifier had time to stop by the Gulf Shore Region
Historical Booth and take a look at all the old photos, books, and
catalogs. Terry
Brown has worked really hard to collect, store and preserve the
region’s history.
I ask each and every
one of you to dig up all of your old photos and such and send them to
Terry (we will make copies and return your originals if necessary).
We are planning a new look for our display at the June Awards
Banquet, so come by and take a look.

CFA INTERNATIONAL SHOW:
The CFA International
Show was held 16-17 November in the George R. Brown Center in Houston,
TX. 1000 beautiful cats
and their owners participated.
The Meow Mall contained about everything that a cat lover could
possibly dream about.
The competition was
fierce, but our own Richard and Terry Brown, owned by
CANDY KISSES (GRP CO-MC Candy Kisses of Caliente) came out as
the Best of the Best. The
black and white SH Manx was bred and is co-owned by Houston’s Jean M
McPhee.
The Houston Cat Club
and Brazos Valley Cat Club members were instrumental in making this
show a great success.
The members of the
Gulf Shore Region want to thank the following:
Scotty Griffey: Show
Advisor
Anne Kieschnik:
Vendor Coordinator
Gail Wiley: Publicity
and Advertising
Shelley Morris:
Hospitality
Gail Bercher:
Hospitality
Chris Willingham:
Hospitality
Paula Beall: Bus
Shuttles
Steward Supervisors:
Jimmie Hawley
Kitty Angell: Junior
Showmanship
Mary Jo Bailey:
CFA Booth
And all those I
forget, Nick, Karen, etc, etc
CFA SURCHARGE:
Remember, for all
shows licensed after 1 Sept 2001, the clubs must send a $1.00 per cat
surcharge into CFA with the show package.
CFA central office will return $.50 per entry to the region.
This surcharge will replace all region surcharges.
JUNIOR SHOWMANSHIP:
By Gloria Hoover, Regional Coordinator
The Gulf Shore Region (GSR) was well
represented in the Junior Showmanship (JS) ring held in conjunction
with the CFA International Show.
Kitty Angel was the judge with 21 JS participants and each is
to be commended for a job well done.
Teale Peck, daughter of Cheryl Peck, Denver, Colorado, was the
only participant from the GSR to receive the all expense paid trip to
Houston.
There were a total of 15 participants
who received the all expense paid trip.
Each of those youngsters had their airfare, hotel and meals
paid by CFA and Friskies.
I certainly would like to see the GSR representative’s numbers
increase for next year.
We have made a few additions to the
GSR JS program. Grace
Guidry has agreed to be the area coordinator for Texas.
Cheryl Peck will coordinate the Colorado area.
Each of these ladies agrees that the future of CFA lies with
our youth and it is our responsibility to help these young people
reach their goals in the cat fancy.
If any of you would like to accept an area coordinator position
please let me know.
A very important reminder:
If your club plans to sponsor a JS ring, please be sure it appears on
your first flyer. When
the announcement is not on the first flyer it creates a great deal of
confusion for those who may have obtained a copy of the first flyer.
We can still get the word out on the net, but we have found
that is not always successful.
For any questions you may have about
the JS program please contact the area coordinator, the central
office, or me. I am sure
any of us will be happy to answer your questions.
Grace Guidry 1180 A F M 2324, Emory, TX 75440, 903-473-2066;
Cheryl Peck 2445 S. Garfield Street, Denver, Co 80201, 303-759-1915.
It is my understanding that the Ozark
Club is planning a JS ring for their show the last week-end in
December, but it did not make the flyer.
Please get the word out to any junior who would like to
participate. The entry
fee is $5; a full exhibitor cage will be provided if space is
available. We are looking
forward to having another successful year for all JS participants.
2002 REGIONAL AWARDS BANQUET:
The committee has worked hard to
finalize the site for the 2001/2002 Awards Banquet/Show.
The Show will be held 01-02 June 2002
at the Bossier City Civic Center (24,000 sq. ft), Bossier City, LA
(across the river from Shreveport).
The planned Judges for the show are
as follows:
Vaughn Barber, AB
Barbara St Georges, AB
Carolyn Owen, AB
Leslie Falteisek, LH/SH
Betty White, LH/SH
Jan Rogers, LH
Marge Collier, SH
The
show hotel and banquet site will be the Holiday Inn in Bossier City.
Remember that Bossier City has some exciting activities (the
riverboats) that you can participate in if you are so inclined.
2002 REGIONAL QUALIFIER:
The 2002 Regional Qualifier will once
again be held at the Big Town Center in Mesquite, Texas.
We had planned to move it to Ft Worth, but could not get a show
hall. Marsha Ammons has
agreed to be Show Manager.
We hope we can duplicate the entry and successful show we had
this year.
